Modeling is important, but rarely the main interview test

Investment bankers use financial models to forecast company performance, value businesses, and analyze transactions. That makes modeling an important job skill. However, most summer analyst interviews do not ask candidates to build a full three-statement model during a standard interview.

Instead, interviewers typically assess the knowledge that supports modeling: accounting, valuation, cash flow, and transaction mechanics. They want evidence that you can understand the analysis, learn quickly, and work carefully once training begins.
