How to Network at a Bank Info Session or On-Campus Event

Bank info sessions and on-campus events let you learn about a firm while meeting people who may later support your application. The goal is not to collect as many contacts as possible. It is to have a few thoughtful conversations, show genuine interest, and create a natural reason to follow up.

Prepare before you enter the room

Spend 20 to 30 minutes researching the bank, the groups represented, and the event format. Know whether the firm operates as a full-service investment bank, an elite boutique, or a specialist in certain industries or products. Review recent public transactions, but do not force deal facts into every conversation.

Prepare a concise introduction covering your name, school, year, field of study, and reason for exploring investment banking. You should also have several questions that cannot be answered by reading the bank’s website. Strong topics include team culture, staffing, junior responsibilities, training, and how the banker chose a group.
